Mr. Sidebotham.

In ampliiication of the above ainute, Mr. Rees-illiams has asked me to add that he considers it vital that in an appreciation of the present situation in ong Kong there should be available full details of water supply and estimated consumption. The particular points are:-

(a) What will be the effect on the Island if

supplies from the mainland are cut off, both in relation to the present population and to any substantial increase in the future by an influx of refugees.

(b)

The effect on the water supply if the reservoirs on the mainland remain available but there is a large reiugee influx into that area.

r. Rees-Williams realises that this information may not be available in detail in the Office, but regards it as of first importance that this problem shoula receive aetailed consideration in an appreciation of the Colony's delences.
